Say for example you want to have a live band streaming to the internet, 
but you also want to capture the multitrack with Ardour - you might very 
well want to place Jamin in the output signal path to catch overs, get 
the EQ roughly right and compress a little. Traditional radio studios 
use specialised hardware for that kind of job, but since not all of us 
have that...

Personally speaking I can run Ardour, Jamin and Hydrogen with about 30% 
average CPU load on a 1.6Ghz Turion single-core laptop. I think by the 
time we get multi-core systems running sweetly it won't be a big deal to 
have Jamin or room compensation running all the time.

Now you know why they put those multiple desktops into the X window 
system :-)
