I don't think you'll need the blindfold. I still have an old 12-channel
Seck lying around, and last time I tried it I noticed it was noisy as
hell compared with a more modern desk. I've no doubt it distorts more
and has a narrower frequency response too.

My current preferred way of mixing is to use an analog desk with
outboard FX and compression, and mix back to a stereo track
in Ardour. This keeps CPU load to a minimum, and allows me to adjust
things _right now_ instead of clicking the correct window into focus,
scrolling to the right place and fiddling around with a mouse.
It's nice to be able to submix in Ardour when extra tracks are required,
and the editing facilities are indispensable, so it's a powerful
combination. Once the mix is done I can fire up Jamin and process it
(I prefer to mix and master separately).

I think the analog vs digital argument is irrelevant here, it's a
matter of convenience. Low-end analog and digital both sound crap,
and at the high-end both sound good.
