It may help, but I meant there's little point buying or hiring that 
expensive gear for calibration if the room response is non-linear, 
because the monitor gain at the listening position would vary across the 
frequency range, and from room to room.

In theory, but Katz's metering system doesn't really address the problem 
that compression is being over-used to satisfy client demands for 
masters with higher average level. I don't believe the mastering 
engineers are ignorant about the problem, I just think they are 
producing louder results so they carry on getting work from clients that 
don't care about dynamic range. That's more of a social problem than a 
technical one. I blame people who grew up watching music on TV instead 
of listening to it on hi-fi sets :-)

I think the best way for you to help make this happen would be to read 
through the Jamin source code and become familiar with it, then work on 
a patch to add the features you're looking for.
