I have no idea which theme I have, how > does one change gtk themes? Never mind, I found it. There's actually a setting in kcontrol (kde control panel) for gtk theme. This was set to 'Qt' which probably is somekind of proxy theme which uses the chosen Qt theme. And indeed, changing this to a native gtk theme made everything work again :-) Thanks for your help!
