Hi Steve, > Theres no good reason in > mastering to have different EQ on left/right that I konw of I can imagine the scenario where you have to master from some stereo mixed-down files and the mix has the errant instrument way over in one channel, as was popular in the 60's. Otherwise, I agree the problem should be fixed at the mixing stage. It's quite common for multitrack copies to be lost by the time a record is due for re-release. I heard just a few days ago that the original Tori Amos album masters have been lost due to oxide shedding, and they are less than 20 years old. Then there are the tapes which are held to ransom by record companies, and others which get thrown away or wiped by accident. Cheers!
