Limiting intersample peaks

I think it would be useful if the limiter sidechain in Jamin
could detect intersample peaks. Many commercially released
CDs are full of these, and since most DACs will clip when
dealing with them it's one of the reasons why loud CDs often
sound so bad. The (ex-Sony) Oxford limiter plugin uses
interpolation to detect intersample peaks, as does the recently
released SSL peak meter plugin.

Is this suggestion impractical? It would obviously increase
CPU load, but OTOH the interpolating algorithm wouldn't need
to be as high quality as one used for SRC, as long as it could
detect the peak level well enough.
