With that experience any software engineer worth their salt would be qualified to understand the difference between improvements and compromises to Jamin.

Oh well, I might as well chime in here ;-) I tend to agree with
John and Ron on this. Right now the only processing problem with JAMin
is one that only Steve Harris (among our group of programmers) has the
knowledge to fix. I've been using it for about two years and I still
would not call myself a mastering guru ;-) The main trick with it is to
leave most of it alone and listen very carefully. Subtract with the EQ,
don't add.
The funny thing about the request to simplify the UI is that the
last feature request that got any traction was the one to add two bands
of compression, thus making the interface *more* complicated. I do
agree that the UI needs to be redone but my preference would be to
completely redo it in C++/Qt4 (without the KDE libraries and without
using Qt Designer). Someday, when my band isn't playing every weekend
and I'm not working 40 hours a week and I'm not fixing everybody's
guitar and/or bass, I'm going to look in to that ;-)
