Since the introduction of ID3v2 in LAME, several years ago, we write
artist into TPE1 frame [Lead performer(s)/Soloist(s)]. If you want
to have Microsoft Explorer show something as "Album artist", you
have to add a TPE2 frame [Band/orchestra/accompaniment], for whatever
reason.

lame -V2 --tv "TPE2=MS shows me this as album artist" a.wav

ID3v2 actually doesn't specify an Album Artist frame. Foobar2000
uses some user defined frame, that would look like:

lame -V2 --tv "TXXX=ALBUM ARTIST=Foobar shows this as Album Artist" a.wav
