Great that IBM seems to be putting support for powerpc. If only some
help could be offered to vanilla powerpc 32 bit big-endian... (Hint,
hint). :)

Which code are you using as basis for your work? I have respun
autotools some, say, months ago and I don't know how far that would be
from the libtools that you have in mind.

My (not-so-current) git mirror of our CVS tree is at:

I can regenerate the files that are needed (if any). I don't have any
idea if Robert wants to release a new version of lame in the mean
time, though.

That being said, I would expect linux distributions (in particular,
Debian) to already use new autotools automatically via dh-autoreconf.

Is this still needed given the git tree that I mentioned?

It would be best for me if this new version got included in Debian.
Then, that would make my work trivial. (And every other package would
also benefit from the new arch). OTOH, I see that we only have
2.4.2-1.3 in Debian's unstable.
