IIRC this is covered in the NPR interview I mentioned: http://www.npr.org/sections/talk/2008/01/rip_this_and_sue_that.html I'm not saying they are really going to go after rippers or that the LAME developers could be liable for what users do. I really don't know. I'm just saying that it's not so simple as ripping being absolutely legal everywhere.
