Hi folks,

we will move the MPC mailing lists from freelists.org to=20
http://lists.matroska.org .

This is becoming necessary because the conditions at freelists.org for=20
the lists maintainers are more and more becoming unacceptable.=20
freelists.org is hosting a couple of thousand different mailing lists=20
meanwhile, and because of that broad audience they recently became the=20
target for harvesters, leading to an unacceptably high number of spam=20
emails per day. For me, the list moderator, this means in an average 10=20
- 20 spam emails i have to filter out, to avoid people subscribed to=20
this list are the victims of those.

On the other hand, the rather outdated Ecartis moderator interface=20
doesnt allow me easily to add people sending emails to the list, but who=20
are not subscribed ( i.e. they participate via gmane ), to the 'always=20
accepted' list, to automatically allow their email being forwarded to=20
the list. The version of mailman that Mosu has installed on his private=20
server ( a Linux box with a fixed IP ), and which we are using for the=20
matroska lists, will allow all of that. The more interesting thing for=20
me, that lists.matroska.org has not been a target for harversters so=20
far, and there is close to zero spam coming to the lists because of that.

I invite all of you to goto http://lists.matroska.org and subscribe to=20
the relevant lists. I will soon mark the lists on freelist.org for=20
deletion, and we will also update the homepage on mpc.corecodec.org=20
accordingly. The list email adresses ( for now ) are :

[email protected]
[email protected]
[email protected]
[email protected] ( soon )

As soon as musepack.net or musepack.org ( more likely the first ) will=20
be owned by Frank or myself, we will change this from=20

@lists.matroska.org

into

@lists.musepack.net/org

so there will be no clear relation to the matroska project ( MPC should=20
stay independant IMO ).

Everybody who does not subscribe to the new lists himself will be=20
subscribed by me after one week from now. This is not as convenient as=20
it sounds, because this means for unsubscription you also have to=20
contact me, and cant do it yourself ;-) .....

I hope the measure, and why its done, is ok with you all.

Best regards

Christian
