Title: Draft Proposal for "Add social media integration" Abstract Recently a new feature (Concerts) in event have been introduced in MB. Using FB and twitter like social media sites to promote events and to increase the use of MB among users. ContentPersonal DetailsName: Anjali UjjainiaEmail: [email protected] Nick: anjaliujjainiaGithub: http://github.com/Anjali2906MusicBrainz Profile: https://musicbrainz.org/user/anjaliLocation (City, Country, Time Zone): Delhi, India (UTC/GMT +5:30 hours) IntroductionI propose to complete the integration of social media into MB so that users can successfully share the events they're gonna visit or have visited by sharing on fb/twitter. Project Goals[1] Modifying the UI to create a subsection for the sharing button Creating a subsection in the overview page after editing a entry for concert, having inks to further share the concerts you’re sharing on your/friend’s wall via musicbrainz, which the friends can RSVP if they are attending the concert. [2] Social Features and their implementation - At the time of creating a event, we can either ask for a link of the official sites of the concerts on facebook and twitter. - When sharing if the links provided at the time of creating the event will work as a #tag for the page which can be extracted from the respective API’s of both fb and twitter. - A login via fb and twitter can also be implemented rather than a normal MB login, which helps in several ways: - Creates a more validated authentication for the users for their existence. - Login via any social media sites provides connecting to other sites using these id’s as well. - People who wants to RSVP will be redirected to MB page of the event created and can login via fb/twitter or can form mb user id to rsvp which will increase the counter of attendance system which has already been tried to implement but not started. - For twitter: - Since most of the profiles are public there is no hard need to login to twitter for the data too. - able to gather activity info from social networks and feed it to mb(eg. save #relevant tweets in mb-event) - For facebook: - We definitely need to login to a fb account to access any of the data. - Either no login via fb and just share button of fb can be implemented which then asks to post on the users wall on behalf of mb - Also, with invite plugin in facebook we can allow users to invite friends to checkout the event (when user provides with the link of event while creating the edit) and in this way friends with the users gets to know about the upcoming events. Implementation# Facebook implementation: Perl API which can be used for the purpose can be: h ttp://search.cpan.org/~unobe/WWW-Facebook-API-0.4.18/lib/WWW/Facebook/API.pm <http://search.cpan.org/~unobe/WWW-Facebook-API-0.4.18/lib/WWW/Facebook/API.pm> which can be used with the moose to integrate and further used for the purpose of sharing via fb or in any other way feels appropriate. Plugins such as https://developers.facebook.com/docs/plugins/share-button can also be used, if not planning to go with login via fb. # Twitter Implementation: Perl API can be used to collect the information with a #tag related to the event or the mb site to check how many people are talking about the concert or the mb and fetch tweets to check the publicity. https://dev.twitter.com/overview/api/twitter-libraries About me: I am Anjali Ujjainia pursuing B.tech, 3rd semster from Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology. I love web developments. I have one year experience of python and a basic knowledge of perl, but a motivation to learn it. Idea of adding a social media features to sites to get better feedbacks and promotion attracted my attention. I have not done this feature before and therefore is willing to learn alot and come up with a good end product. I am solving issues, reporting bugs and editing database, so that the database contains for useful information for people. *Contributions:* [1] https://github.com/musicbrainz/picard-website/pull/24 Currently working on http://tickets.musicbrainz.org/browse/MBS-6438 I would like to receive possible changes from the developers.
