As of 1.0b17, the images are not displayed to the user. Stephane put the support for storing them in long ago, but never added it to the UI. I'm working on adding display of images, comments, lyrics, etc for 1.0b18 and the code should be in CVS soon. It's on the radar -- won't be too long now. As an aside, I just added support for writing the images back into the ID3 tags of media files yesterday.
