installing from cvs

hello
i want to get the latest version of netjuke
so i am attempting to install thru cvs

i have been having difficulties writing back to id3 tags,
specifically when the tag was stored as version 1
and netjuke is trying to update it as version 3 or 4.
so i want to get the latest cvs to stay abreast of
all changes bieng made.
this is my first time using cvs

i have sucessfully logged in to cvs anonymously 
and used the checkout command to retrieve the files

i backed up my database (sql) then dropped it to clear it out
and then i tried to do a fresh install.
but after i view the source of the web page
which contains the inc-pref.php,
and save it in the proper place

i just get a blank page

so my question is:
do you have to do something special to install
the cvs version of netjuke
