Cannot execute using backquotes in safe mode

Hello,
I am trying to install netjuke 1.0b17 on the following system:
Redhat Linux 7.2
Apache 1.27
php 4.2

When I run the installer, I keep getting this error:

Warning: Cannot execute using backquotes in safe mode in
/home/virtual/site3/fst/var/www/html/musics/installer/lib/inc-generate.php
on line 164

Can someone please tell me how to fix this problem?
