Help with new install on RH8.0

After filling out the install script form, I get this error:

Fatal error: Call to undefined function: mysql_connect() in /var/www/html/netjuke/lib/adodb/drivers/adodb-mysql.inc.php on line 213

I've looked at adodb-mysql.inc.php and line 212 through 214 reads:

else if (ADODB_PHPVER >= 0x4200)

            $this->_connectionID = mysql_connect($argHostname,$argUsername,$argPassword,

                                                $this->forceNewConnect);

Unfortunately I have no idea what this means.

I think I've set up mysql correctly, I can login to mysql with -p and my password is accepted, I've created a database and set it to the current db with the use command.

Rpm reports that I have php ver 4.2.2 installed.

What could be wrong?
