We are currently starting off with the netjuke v1.1 codebase which
will have a revamped database and program structure for different
filetypes, UI templates, etc. You made some good points we should
consider for the next version but I don't think anything will change
for 1.0 in that respect.

No, I'm afraid it's not. Normal users shouldn't be able to edit
metadata currently and downloading can only be disabled for all users.
That's why we thought of introducing a better permission system for
the next version.

Users are able to sign-up with the 1.0 and 0.0 security modes, but you
don't have the ability to set their permissions cause there aren't
any, see above.

I don't think it is that inefficient - not as fast as native code
could be, I admit. But on the other hand PHP provides easy access to
database (adodb) and the getid3 library for tag reading. The cronjob
ability should definitely be addressed in 1.1 but I'd opt for an
additional php-shellscript which can be called to update the database.

Some sort of configurable blocks system is planned for the future but
1.0 is feature frozen atm and I don't think Blake is planing on
extending it much but if you like to provide small patches or
extensions to the 1.0 code your help is welcome, I guess.

For an easy solution you could try to query the tabfile-recursive.php
with lynx or wget from a cronjob. I haven't done this so far and it
might require altering code (or pass cookies) for authentication.
