The only thing I can say is: Thanks a lot! For your time and effort. I hope that Blake find the same level of user support that you had. He has mine for sure. Regards from Argentina Guillermo -----Mensaje original----- De: Stephane Daury [mailto:[email protected]] Enviado el: Monday, January 27, 2003 12:20 PM Para: [email protected] CC: [email protected]; Blake Watters Asunto: [Netjuke-users] Introducing a new netjuke maintainer. Hello there everybody, Well it has been a lot of fun, but it is now time for me to pass my maintainer responsibilities to a new project leader, Blake Watters. Since November, and the last release, I find myself with too little time to invest in the development, maintenance and support of the netjuke and its community... Slowing down the momentum that the project has acquired being the last of my wishes, I have decided that the best thing would be for me to find someone who will be able to focus as much of his time and attention to the project as I used to when I was self-employed and "only" had one kid. To a lot of extents, the netjuke being my "3rd child", it would have tremendously pained me to see it die because of my lack of time and/or attention, hence why I came down to this conclusion, after thinking about it for a few weeks. Blake, who is working at/for/with ibiblio.org, has been using and submitting patches for the netjuke for quite a while now, and he has proven to be extremely reliable and talented in both the code that he provided us with, as well as his support of the latter. He is also very motivated by the project, which made him a top-of-the-line contender, in my eyes, to keep the project moving forward at the pace that it requires. I truly hope (and know) that you will all agree with me once you get to know him. But enough about Blake, as I'm sure he'll do a much better job at introducing himself to you than I can ever do. I'll simply finish that part of my message by stating that I am fully confident that Blake will do a wonderful job for you guys, and ask all of the interested parties to support him in his efforts as well as you all have done for me since I first released the netjuke on Sourceforge. :o) Now, I would like to thank the entire community for the wonderful times and experiences that it has brought me. Having the occasion to deal with so many people and technologies has been a continual blessing to me, whether professionally or personally. If one thing is for sure, I would definitely recommend the Open Source development model to anyone aspiring to become or sharpen his skills as a programmer, especially when coupled with a viable revenue model (see TheKompany.com for a great example of the latter). For those who might be interested in what wil become of me in the immediate future, I will still handle the French translation of the netjuke, as well as submit code from time to time (see the upcoming Music Directory Browser and splited Preference Editors in the next version), but I will especially be focusing on my wonderful wife and kids, my full-time development job at McGill University (Montreal, QC, Canada), as well as a charitable project I was hoping to start at the same time as the netjuke, but never was able to: the Artekopia Foundation. I am hoping to develop Artekopia.org ("An Art and Technology Utopia") into a charitable organization that will focus on gathering computer equipment (new and used) to be loaded with Open Source software suites and operating systems, and distributed to underprivileged recipients (most likely kids, as they have no means to acquire such equipment by themselves if they parents cannot afford to). Well, that's about it, and it is now time for me to wish you a good night, and as usual, a happy "netjuking" to you all. ;o) Cheers, thank you for using the netjuke, and best regards to all.
