Netjuke 1.0b17 Released!

Hi Everyone -

I've just completed the release process for Netjuke 1.0b17. All SourceForge mirrors should have the files shortly. The main website has been updated with the new release and I have upgraded the demo site as well.

This release is packed with new features, bug fixes, and enhancements that greatly improve the Netjuke experience. Enjoy the new release!

1. NEW MAINTAINER

	The Netjuke torch has been passed from Stephane Daury to Blake Watters.

2. ID3 AND OGG COMMENT WRITEBACK

	Ogg Comments and ID3 tags can now be written back to the media files to 
	match the corresponding entries in the Netjuke database. This allows 
	complete management of your media from within the Netjuke system.
	
3. MUSIC DIRECTORY BROWSER

	This feature provides an interface for browsing the music library at the 
	filesystem level. Tools are provided to perform selective imports and 
	organization at a directory level.

4. FILESYSTEM ORGANIZE UTILITY

	This tool provides a powerful method for leveraging Netjuke's database to 
	organize the filesystem structure of your media collection. A set of special 
	tokens, preceded by the '%' character allow you to specify the way in which 
	Netjuke will organize your media. This also allows you to make significant 
	changes to the location of a large number of songs without having to concern 
	yourself with losing the metadata of the tracks.

5. STATIC SESSIONS

	This simply prevents sessions from expiring and allows users to interact 
	with Netjuke without having to login frequently. Note that this means that 
	anyone with access to your user agent will be able to access your collection 
	with your access level without ever entering a password.

6. BATCH DOWNLOADING

	This feature builds upon the traditional single file download by allowing 
	archives of multiple files to be downloaded in an organized fashion. Zip, 
	tar, and stuffit formats are supported. Great for burning CD's from your 
	collection!

7. BETTER USER INFORMATION

	Netjuke now informs you of the last time a user logged into their account. 
	Useful for tracking user activity at a glance and identifying stagnant 
	accounts.

8. INTEGRATED RANDOMIZE FEATURES

	Netjuke now contains a dice icon next to any logical grouping of multiple 
	tracks (genre, artist, album, and playlist). Simply click the dice icon and 
	a random playlist of all the contained media will be generated for you and 
	immediately begin playing. Additionally, every form containing tracks that 
	are selectable now contains a 'Randomize' checkbox next to the 
	'Play Selected' option.
		
9. DETECTION OF CHANGES TO MEDIA TAGS

	Netjuke now identifies tracks that have been modified since they were 
	originally imported and will automatically reimport these tracks when the 
	'Maintain Music Database' option is utilized. This allows users to freely 
	edit the tag information of their media with external tools without having 
	to delete and reimport the tracks into Netjuke.

10. SPLIT ADMINISTRATIVE PREFERENCES

	As Netjuke has matured, the preferences have greatly grown in size. To 
	unclutter the interface and provide a more intuitive administrative 
	experience, the preferences have been split into three logical groupings.
		
11. DUPLICATE TRACK FINDER

	This tool provides a variety of options for scanning your library and 
	identifying potentially redundant media. Metadata and actual track data can 
	be considered.
		
12. TRASH CAN

	The batch delete and individual track deletion tools will now move your 
	media to a 'Trash' directory so they can be removed easily. This prevents 
	deleted tracks from being reimported every time the importer is run.
 
14. BUG FIXES AND OTHER ENHANCEMENTS

	Since b16, a number of issues have been resolved that provide a uniformly 
	pleasing Netjuke experience. The latest and greatest versions of the adodb 
	and getid3 libraries have been utilized. Netjuke is now compatible with 
	Postgres 7.3 and higher. The importer will now handle special characters in 
	filenames more reliably. Media in known formats is now scanned aggressively 
	to work around corruption or bugs in the encoder. A new 'Refresh' option has 
	been integrated that allows Editors and Administrators to reread the tag 
	information from any track. A new Russian translation has been completed.
	
15. POLICY CHANGES

	Netjuke is now released under the terms of the GNU General Public License,
	version 2. Additionally, translations have been removed from the release 
	schedule (greatly retarding development). Translations will continue to be 
	supported, but any language pack that is incomplete on the date of release 
	will have the untranslated strings filled with English. Strings will continue 
	to be made available to translators well before a release.
