Actually, audio CDs do sometimes carry album/artist/track names on the CD.
It is stored in the CD's TOC (the enforced 2sec leadin before track 1).

Only about 5% of commercial CDs seem to include the info, I don't know why it
is so few.
You can burn your own CDs, and include the track names - its very handy.
Most car cd players and recent portables support reading CD-TEXT, and even if
they don't they will still happily play the audio.
