The LGPG does not prevent Sony from taking it and using it in any of their
products.  In fact, the LGPL was written to allow just that.  Well, Sony is
the least candidate to actually make use of Open/NetMD.  I would rather
worry about some small company trying to get a cut out of Sony's MD success.

The GPL pretty much gives you maximum protection while still being a free
software license.  BSD does not give you any protection.  LGPL is inbetween:
It can be used, but modifed versions of the library itself need to be free.
