That sounds too complex.  It's more likely that if there is a problem that
leads to audible data corruption that can't be fixed by tuning the laser
etc, that just the whole circuits are replaced.

Everything is possible.  So far we have no proof that the feature is not
included in the hardware.  However, I now know the commands to join and
split tracks, and to put the player into record mode (normal record), and
they are not supported by the MZ-N707.  So there appear to be some
limitations to the NetMD firmware.
