The only way to achieve this goal is to fight digital restriction management
in all of its form.  For those people who already own such hardware, working
around its limitations is a way to get more personal freedom.  However, it
will not do one bit to prevent future developments like this.  It could be
argued that every work around is helping Sony and other companies in their
DRM efforts.

One important weapon in our fight is informing the public of the effects
that DRM technology has on their privacy and freedom.  This is way more
important than making DRM affected hardware work how we like to make it
work.

I am sure you are aware of it, but the general trend (and Microsoft, the
RIAA and the MPIAA are lobbying for this in a joined effort) is to make
unrestricted processing of digital information illegal, with proposed
punishments like 5 years in prison for selling unrestricted hardware.  The
situation is serious, and the general public is unaware.  This has to
change.  Time is running out, as the lobbying efforts reach their goal
behind the back of the general public, which will be screwed over this.
