   You can't record into an existing segment, but rg will expand the 
composition if you are recording at the end.

   Sounds like a good feature request.

   Paste "Move existing notes" unfortunately doesn't expand the segment. 
  "Paste Range" on the main window does, but that might not be the best 
approach since it affects all tracks.
