This is working as designed. The grid setting turns on "snap to
grid". You can either set it to none to turn if off, or hold down shift
while moving a note to turn the grid off temporarily.

   Working as designed.

The "Quantize" setting affects how unquantized notes appear on the
matrix editor. As an example:

- Start with grid either off or on 1/4 and quantize off.
- Lay down a note and shift it slightly off grid horizontally. (Either
turn off the grid or hold down shift while moving.) Maybe 1/16th note.
- Now set quantize to 1/4.
- The note will be moved to line up with the 1/4 grid.
- Turn quantize off and the note will move back to where it actually is.

I assume this view quantize feature can help when looking at a really
rough performance. I always keep it off.
