sox_ng as Pipewire filter - an idea and discussion

Please pardon me if this seems like a truly wild idea, but it seems to me excellent timing because of ongoing but fairly mature adoption of pipe wire as the standard way of handling sound routing in Linux. There will be a release of Ubuntu Resolute Raccoon (26.04) around April 23, and that has prompted me to think about what follows:

I am wondering if it would make sense, and how difficult it would be, to make it possible to run sox_ng As a filter node in the Pipe wire graph. I suspect this would tremendously reduce latency as compared to using a pw_record | sox_ng | pw_play pipeline. I also suspect that some of the effects, and definitely the ability to combine many effects in a single node, would be advantageous to pipe wire users.
