yeah, non-native GUI is a necessary evil if you want things looking 
professional. but that's long term. here are the improvements to the 
status bar i would prescribe:

- remove the coloring on the status indicators. yuck. (it's not only a 
general bad idea to present critical status information with color 
alone, but white/yellow/lime green is particularly unattractive. at 
least it's not red/green.)
- interpreter on/off status indicated with a light, not text.
- server status also indicated with a light. a little animation should 
be displayed if the server is booting.
- OSC in / OSC out lights for the interpreter.
- panic button as a clickable GUI element.
- volume slider embedded.
- volume monitors for input and output embedded. (accommodating everyone 
is a little bit tricky here -- what if the user has 64 outputs?)
