[git] checkout plugins for SC 3.9

Hi,

this message could've gone to sc-users but possibly people here know
better how to solve my problem (if it can be solved at all).

Already some time ago I've updated my plugins for SC 3.9 (new API). I
don't remember exactly how I did that then (I guess it was from a
separate branch which doesn't exist anymore). Today I wanted to pull the
latest changes in the plugins so I switched from my local 3.9 plugins
branch to master as I assumed that to already have been updated to the
new API as well. After pulling my old 3.9 plugins branch was gone and
after compiling, installing and starting up SC I saw that my freshly
built plugins were not compatible (old API).
So I tried to check out the 'Version-3.9.0' tag, following what was
written here:

(I am now at commit aa606ed from which the latest plugin release was tagged)
Yet, after clean compiling and starting SC I realized my plugins still
don't work with SC 3.9 (old API).

My question: Is it possible at all to checkout the plugins compliant
with the new API from github or do I have to download the zipped sourcecode?
