Hi Alberto, I'll try to summarize it for you (please correct me if I
forgot/distorted something):

- SC is heavier because it packages QtWebView (this was in the context of a
discussion regarding the future of Help Browser and HelpView, which you can
follow here: https://github.com/supercollider/rfcs/pull/9). This makes for
heavier standalones too

- It would be nice to have some packaged distribution on Linux (like
AppImages). A bit mac-style, that would allow for easier making of
standalones, plus it would make it easier to have multiple sc version
installed at the same time. On the other hand, Brian H. also wished for a
way to do a system-wise install of sc on mac, linux-style (so that you can
run sclang from terminal)

- A refactoring/reorganization of all search paths is due. It's a big
project, Natan H. has been doing some work on it and has the big picture.

So standalones would still serve these purposes:
- easier conservation of artworks: package sc, plugins, quarks, preferences
and code all together. Then the only thing that could not work is the OS.
- easier plug and play distributions for artworks
- easier testing/development of multiple sc versions on the same system
(especially on linux)

For sure your presence and contribution would be much appreciated!
Greetings
