The most probable cause is that when he starts the server, it starts
jack, causing the zoom application or the navigator to become silent,
because the sound device is captured by jack.
A solution is, if the linux distro uses pulseaudio as the main sound
service, then, before starting zoom and sc, start jack and the jack
pulseaudio bridge (this can be easily configured with cadence for
exeample : https://kx.studio/Applications:Cadence )
If your student is using a debian-like distro, then the way to go is to
add the kxstudio repositories, which offer a bunch of usefool audio
tools (and cadence among them).
