Re: Future of the lists

I've only started learning SC recently, and joined this list yesterday... so you know, take this with a big salt rock.

I attempted to join this list a few months back and received errors while emailing majordomo. Tried a couple email providers to see if it was something weird with the University of Birmingham's mail server and protonmail, and after the same error on gmail occurred I gave up, and eventually found scsynth.

I saw Scott's post on scsynth yesterday, and it compelled me to try again, and at first, same error, and then I had a hunch to make my email plain text, and then it worked. Anyway, I posted on there but figured now I'm here, not wanting to split the conversation, I'd chime in here.

I've been enjoying frequenting scsynth, and I personally really love mailing lists, and prefer them over forums. But I would say that if it's decided to stay with this list and not switch over to a forum, this list would benefit from switching email providers, both for the archives, but also to make it far easier to join.

When I first tried to join the list, I was only thinking about whether coding for sound was the right approach for me, and I was also considering which language to go with, SC, ChucK, or just stick with Max, etc. When I wasn't able to sign up it was pretty defeating. It's not everyday you.. at least I.. am unable to join an email list, and I sort of thought if I can't even do that, than this coding thing isn't gonna work.

Anyway, I'm not trying to make a snowflake out of myself, just saying - one of the earlier posts in response to the op was that the list activity is tapering off. I don't know if anyone else had/has the same issues trying to actually sign up for this list, but it might help with getting new participants and more activity.
