Sure, in the default theme (zinf.fat) full view, 
there is a wavy symbol in the upper right hand corner
which open the equalizer.  I never use it myself as my
files are all Oggs, but I would like to see it working again.

So.. are you refering to software volume control?
Both seem to work well for me (hardware and software).
