I'll have to confirm this.  I used to have my home on NFS, but
I moved it locally for performance reasons.   

I am thinking we might have problems with libgdbm3 working
over NFS under certain combinations.

In the meantime,  can you fill me in on 
the particulars such as:
1. client version (linux, NFS)
2. server version (linux, NFS)
