OK, I've made avaliable the branch zinf--mingw--0.1 in my repository at  
http://www-student.cs.york.ac.uk/~djh123/zinf/arch2004/ It now compiles  
the xingmp3 plugin as well. And as it ain't exactly nice downloading code  
 from an arch repository when using windows, I've also included a patch  
against the CVS version (you can get "patch" from the msys development  
kit):

To actually get it to compile, you'll first need to install both mingw and  
msys (http://www.mingw.org/) You will also need to get the GTK Runtime  
Environment and the GTK Development Environment  
(http://www.dropline.net/gtk/)

The development environment needs to be installed in the same place that  
mingw was installed, and you will need to make sure the runtime location  
is in the system path (see http://www.dropline.net/gtk/support.php). I had  
to add the line
SET Path=%Path%;"D:\Program Files\Common Files\GTK\2.0\lib"
to autoexec.bat to actually get this to work in Win98, but the dropline  
website does describe other ways of doing it.

To use the mingw makefiles (all called Makefile.mingw) you will need to  
execute make from within MSYS, simply executing
make -f makefile.mingw
in the top src dir should compile everything. The makefile assumes that  
the src is located in /zinf/zinf-mingw and that you want the executables  
placed in this directory. You can edit these locations in the root  
makefile.mingw. You'll also need to make the directory "plugins" wherever  
you tell make to place the executables.

Hopefully that should be it, obviously I haven't got all the plugins to  
compile yet but you should be able to play mp3s using the gtk ui.
