hadn't spotted that one.

yeah, I had issues getting it to work *with* freetype, (i.e. it
compiled, but no text showed up) I'm hoping that if a put in some pango
stuff, etc, it should be just as good as (or better than) before.

I managed to fix that, but then noticed that it was no longer switching
prefs pages, just highlighting the title. but as the tree widget is
deprecated, I figured that it wasn't worth fixing properly, only to
ditch a whole load of code later.

AFAICT most bugs seem to be related to subtle differences in the way
signals are passed to widgets in response to events of some kinds.
Although I'm sure there are some things that can never have worked.
