OT: Alternatives to RealPlayer

I've read much, here and elsewhere, about the mess that RealPlayer can make of one's PC.  

Given that this group is intrinsically somewhat anti-establishment (or we wouldn't be using Zinf 
when Uncle Bill has so kindly provided up with Media Player), can anyone point me at an 
alternative, independent, application that will access web-sourced RealAudio files accessed via 
links of the form:  http://www.somewhere.com/whatever.ram
