It's the "yet" that is the hard part. We could have made
distro-specific packages of the autopackage runtime, but if they
weren't installed by default it made no difference to the user
experience so seemed fairly pointless. It'd be neat if one day
ZeroInstall was a default, supported part of the base OS on some major
distributions but I think that's only slightly more likely than with
autopackage, to be honest.

I dunno, I never tried that part, sorry :/ If it just converts a
zeroinstall feed into .desktop files then I guess that approach can
work, because in theory you never have to remove them.

Anything else where there's an integration point ..... screensavers,
icon themes, application plugins ....

How does it know what the right package names are? How does it know
that if it asks the system for libfoo, it actually gets the libfoo it
expects with the right build options, etc?
