Whether Zero Install will help you depends where you're stuck at the
moment. Zero Install only covers distribution of existing packages; it
assumes you already have binary-relocatable tarballs (or .package
files) for each architecture on your FTP/HTTP server.

So, you'll still want to get the Autopackage tools like apbuild
working to help you create those binaries in the first place!

Zero Install can be used as an alternative to the Autopackage
client-side installer.
What it will do is let you give a single URL to your users which they
can use to run your program. It will automatically pick the right
package for their platform (you only provide a single link), check for
updates periodically, etc.

It's all written in Python, so there shouldn't be any problems with
64-bit. I can't test it personally because I also don't have a 64-bit
system :-( I know we have 64-bit users, though, because they often
complain about the lack of 64-bit binaries for various programs!
