I don't know If I understood you correctly, but isn't it just
package remove autopackage autopackage-gtk autopackage-qt
and then executing a package file?

The 1.5 package should suggest to update the support code to version
1.5, shouldn't it?

Again I'm not quite sure that I understood you correctly. Do you mean,
that there should be no need to update the installed support code?

Not if they want to continue providing only x86 packages.

I have only removed the backend.template and the installer.template
from the package. stub.template and downloader.template are still
being used.

Another point is, that installer.template is exactly the same in every
package (AFAIK). So by removing it also saves some space in each
package file.
