Sigh... I feel like such an idiot.

I incorrectly assumed that installing Bacula in Ubuntu 24.04 would  
install the latest version 15.0.3, and of course it only installs  
version 13.0.4.

Once I added the Bacula repository from www.bacula.org and installed  
15.0.3 on Ubuntu, everything worked fine.  Ubuntu director is writing  
to the Slackware64 storage daemon and creating volumes automatically.

Thanks Bill for all of your help on and off the list.  Sorry for  
flooding your Inbox, and for wasting yours and everyone else's time.
