strange behaviour under windows

I found some strange behaviour of breve 1.7 under windows.

 

First, the software crashes quite randomly (I believe doing parsing because
it is before all the windows appear).  I found a fix.  If it crashes, all
you need to do is to add a blank space or line to the source file and then
it will run perfectly.

 

Second is the loading of images.  I cannot load any images in the windows
version.  I know the program finds the images since if I spell the wrong
filename it displays a different message.  The message that I get is always
"error reading image file "\breve_windows\lib\classes/images\breve.png": not
a PNG file".  This happens if I specify .gif or .jpg files as well and it
says it's not a PNG file.  Any ideas what's wrong?
