:-) And I'm just setting up a new kernel with LIDS and some other
security thingies. I know that feeling.

Anyway, yes, the diffs for the two theme.php files also include chunks
that use gettext for the various drop down boxes (like time ranges,
'Yes'/'No', 'Public'/'Private').

I can certainly understand that you don't want PHP code inside the
themes, but I think it'll be hard to fully localize all the strings
without PHP code inside them. But I'm not an expert on PHP, neither on
web programming (my strengths are C, C++, Perl, that kind of stuff ;)),
so I trust in you to find a good solution :)
