Hi,

I'm new to gnats and want to install gnatsweb, after installing gnats worked
very well. send-pr etc. work very well.

I'm using gnats4 + gnatsweb 2.9.3 whith suse linux 8.1.
* calling gnatsd -d TIMRS works very well, so it seems, I have the rights. (I'm
logged in as root on the system)
* telnet localhost 1529 and telnet localhost support succeded.
* http://127.0.0.1/cgi-bin/gnatsweb.pl delivers the loginsite, but there are no
databases in the dropdownfield available.

testing gnatsweb delivers the following result:

  make test USERNAME=markus PASSWORD=markus DATABASE=default
  perl test.pl
  connect...........................................FAIL
  connect...........................................FAIL
  make: *** [test] Error 1

using other existing passwords or existing databases I get the same result.

Executing http://127.0.0.1/cgi-bin/gnatsweb.pl in my webbrowser delivers the
following errorcodes in the httpd errorlog:
Sun Mar 30 19:36:06 2003] gnatsweb.pl: Use of uninitialized value in
concatenation (.) or string at /srv/www/cgi-bin/gnatsweb.pl line 793.
[Sun Mar 30 19:36:06 2003] gnatsweb.pl: Use of uninitialized value in
  pattern match (m//) at (eval 26) line 22, <SOCK> line 2.
[Sun Mar 30 19:36:06 2003] gnatsweb.pl: Use of uninitialized value in
  concatenation (.) or string at (eval 26) line 36, <SOCK> line 2.
[Sun Mar 30 19:36:06 2003] gnatsweb.pl: Use of uninitialized value in
  concatenation (.) or string at (eval 26) line 36, <SOCK> line 2.

Do you know what this means?

I'm using gnats4 which was distributed with suse linux 8.1. gnatsweb2.9.3 is
form your gnats-3.999.1.tar.gz. Further I use Apache 1.3. and inetd not xinetd.
I made the entries in /etc/services and inet.conf you discribed in your
p-inst.texi.

There are the following files with the entries:
in /etc
  gnats-db.conf
    /var/lib/gnatsdb:default
    /var/lib/gnatstimrsdb:TIMRS
    *:*:listdb
    *:*:listdb:
    *:*:edit:default
    *:*:edit:TIMRS
#this file I created myself, because it wasn't installed
#by yast2. If this file doesn't exist I get the same result
    #so I don't know, if I need this.
in /etc/gnats
  databases:
    default:Bug database:/var/lib/gnatsdb
    TIMRS:Fehlerdatenbank für TIM:/var/lib/gnatstimrsdb
  gnatsd.host_access
    localhost:edit:
    127.0.0.1:edit:
in /usr/lib/gnats there are files like gnatsd, mkcat, mkdb etc.
/usr/lib/gnatsdb is for the default database
/usr/lib/gnatstimrsdb is for the TIMRS database
in their gnatsd.access file their are following entries
    *:*:listdb:default
    markus:markus:edit:default
    admin:admin:admin:default
    root:rootroot:edit:default

Is there a problem with gnatsweb.pl? There was no reason to change the first
line because perl is installed in /usr/bin/perl so the line
  #! /usr/bin/perl -w
seems for me to be correct

I executed the two perl statements you recommented in your install doc without
problems and the install statement didn't make any problems, too. I searched the
mailing list, but no of these tipps could help me. I read the docs you delivert
in your gnats-3.999.1.tar.gz again and again, but I had no luck finding the
solution for my problem.

Now after two weeks(!) with try and error, I need help from people who know
this system.
It would be very nice, if you could give me a tip, how to install gnatsweb
correctly.

Thanks in advance for your help. If you need further information, do not
hesitate to contact me.

Bye
widi
