Re: No Advanced View In 1.2.0

I did some more investigation on this and think I found where my problems may be.

First, I have been using the link labeled "The MantisBT Manual (v1.2.x)." on the documentation page at http://www.mantisbt.org/documentation.php. It looks like this documentation is not correct, and it looks like it is just a copy of the 1.1.x documentation. This documentation still has sections about Simple and Advanced for both Issue View and Issue Update, and mentions nothing about Manage Columns.

Looking at the doc directory of the 1.2.0 download it looks like there is updated documentation included. This documentation does have most of the references to Simple and Advanced views removed, but NOT all of them. This version of the documentation also has no reference of any kind to the Manage Columns functionality. The Manage Configuration section ends at E-mail Notifications.

So from all the sources I can see there is no information about the new Manage Columns functionality. Does anyone know where the documentation for this can be found?


Second, while experimenting with the Manage Columns functionality I found a few different quirks.

When copying the contents of All Available Columns to View Issues Columns some of the columns were still not displayed when viewing an issue. Namely Steps To Reproduce and Additional Information were missing. After a little more playing around I found that these were visible when updating an issue. Turns out if these fields are blank they are not displayed when viewing an issue, but if they have data in them they are displayed. While I can see where this might be kind of cool, it is jarring for fields that used to be displayed by default to no longer be there.

Also some columns seemed to be missing completely from the All Available Columns list. Namely ETA and Projection. After some more digging I found that there are now globals in the config file that control if these fields are enabled or not. Unfortunately the default for these is OFF for 1.2.x, while the default for 1.1.x was to display these fields.


So in the end it looks like the web site is in bad need of an update, particularly the documentation links. The 1.2.x documentation still needs to be cleaned up to remove references to the Simple and Advanced options. And finally the Manage Columns functionality needs documentation.

Ah what fun new versions can be. ;-)

This is not a good thing. What is particularly bad is that the web site still points it out as a feature and the 1.2.x documentation specifically calls it out and I used this information on the web site to make the decision to do the upgrade.

You may ask why no one noticed during testing? The reason is that we are a small team with only 5-6 users and were at a point in our projects that the advanced view was not being used. Thus we missed it. Now that we have moved on to a different stage in development

Am I correct in assuming that the All Available Columns section of Manage Columns in My Account is supposed to list all the columns? If so it looks like ETA from the old Advanced view is missing.

I have copied the contents of All Available Columns to View Issues Columns under My Account, but it does not seem to change the view at all. Is there something else that needs to be set, possibly at the admin level, for Manage Columns to work?


One comment about this method is that it is not user friendly because the column names do not match the field names shown by Mantis. For example which field does the column version equate to, Product Version, Target Version, OS Version, etc.? I guess you just have to play around and see what happens. This is particularly bad for non-technical users that want to change what they see and my users are not really all that technical.

Hello,

I upgraded our Mantis install to 1.2.0 a couple weeks ago and only just now noticed that we can not switch between Simple and Advanced views for viewing, reporting or updating issues. I have added the following lines to config_inc.php, but it makes no difference.

 $g_show_report   = BOTH;
 $g_show_update   = BOTH;
 $g_show_view   = BOTH;

I did notice that these values are not in config_defaults_inc.php for version 1.2.0, but are there for version 1.1.1.

Has this feature been removed or has the way you switch between Simple and Advanced changed?
