Dear Friends and Users of Roundup,

our Wiki is in need of a migration to a new location.
The plan is to move to the specialized MoinMoin hoster
  https://waldmann-edv.de/
within the next weeks or months [*].

We aim for
 * a managed service, to free the development team to maintain
    this part of our infrastructure
 * an updated software, with features like inline display of attached
   source code examples
 * https support

Best Regards,
Bernhard

== Details

== Forced to move
In recent years our wiki was hosted by SourceForge and the development
team of Roundup maintained a MoinMo.in instance on SF's shell service.
Thanks Source Forge for providing this infrastructure to Roundup!

For security reasons SF does not allow to make external data connections on
their shell service anymore, which is understandable. But for our wiki it meas
that it could not send the necessary emails for password confirmations
or watched pages anymore. So we considered our options, the discussion
is documented here:

https://issues.roundup-tracker.org/issue2551027

== Options
SF's wiki (running on the Free Software Allura) has the main drawbacks that it
does not offer page hierarchies and we would have to transform the wiki markup
which is a medium task.

Running our own instance on a general hoster would mean that we need to put in
maintenance time. In the past years we were not able to keep up with updates
of MoinMoin in a timely manner, this demonstrates the need to improve on this
point.

Thus going to the MoinMo.in hoster run by Thomas Waldmann, one of the core
maintainers of MoinMoin came out as best option.

==  Specalized MoinMoin hoster

Waldman-EDV's running ort wiki will bear costs of 180 €/year which will be
sponsored by Intevation (an owner run company, I am one of them) for the
foreseeable future. Personally I think it is good that we become a paying
customers for part of our infrastructure, which is run on Free Software
products. This gains us some independence.

== Timeframe

(*) When the move it done depends on some cleanup and testing task from our
side. We could do it within a few weeks, but we may need more time. Help is
appreciated - as always. ;-)

== Comments?
If you happen to have comments or remarks, feel free to mail us here or
directly in the issue.

Best Regards,
Bernhard on behalf of the Roundup-Development Team
