yeah, that one i think isn't very solvable. just say no.

yes, that is the standard fix, and VPNs to home networks are
relatively common/easy to set up (i say that knowing full well how
much of a lie that can be, i kinda hate technology :-) since home
modems tend to have it as a feature in their settings.
