Greetings!

There will be an OSCOM Sprint in Zurich on Thu Mar 13th -
Fri 14th.

The idea of this event is to gather developers of different
Open Source CMSs to work on implementing common protocols
and ideas in the different systems.

  http://www.oscom.org/Conferences/Sprints/

Both Torben and I will be attending. Besides the regular
sprint program we will look at several Midgard subjects:

  * David Schmitter's multilingual content patch
    http://midgard.dataflow.ch/

  * Building new Midgard project site on MidCOM

  * Integrating MidCOM and Aegir CMS (as an AddOn at
    this point)

Other Midgard and Aegir CMS developers would be welcome!

/Bergie

PS. here is chat log from our discussion with Torben about
the Sprint:

<bergie> More info about the Zurich Sprint:
<bergie> http://www.oscom.org/Conferences/Sprints/
<bergie> torben: Will you attend the Sprint?
<torben> bergie i think so
<bergie> good. my attendance is not yet 100% certain, as the visit to
Denmark got moved
<bergie> ...but if I find cheap flights I'll come
<bergie> Lufthansa would be EUR 260. :-)
* torben is off to lunch
--- torben is now known as torbenLUNCH
<bergie> torbenLUNCH: confirmed, I'll come to the Sprint
--- torbenLUNCH is now known as torben
<torben> bergie: its fairly certain that i will be there too
<bergie> great!
<bergie> Have you confirmed with Michael Wechner?
<torben> not yet
<torben> i'm just sending him an e-mail
<bergie> ok, good
<torben> when do you arrive exactly?
<bergie> no idea, haven't booked the flights yet
<torben> thu morning or wed evening?
<bergie> probably wed evening
<bergie> ...so there is time for beer before the sprint ;-)
<torben> *g*
<torben> two things from my planning:
<torben> first, i will sleep at my parents home from thu to fri, which
is around 40-50 km away from zurich
<torben> so if you need a bed for that night, i'm fairly sure, that we
could arrange something *g*
<bergie> ok, I'll let you know in advance. thanks!
<torben> second, i will depart on friday afternoon, 15:00 or so, as i
have to drive back to munich that day
<bergie> ok
<torben> if its 1600 it's fine with me too
<torben> i'd decide this on the basis of how far we got
<bergie> ok
<bergie> I think it is important to get things to stage where we can
easily continue working over the net
<torben> yeah
<torben> agreed
<bergie> we should have some kind of agenda/todo list
<torben> yeah
<torben> our topic was midgard-project.org if i remember this right.
<bergie> yes
<torben> should we bring in aegir at this point?
<bergie> at least indirectly, yes
<bergie> ...so that we know how to implement the MidCOM AegirAddOn
<torben> ok
<torben> are there other midgard guys we know at the sprint?
<bergie> not as far as I know
<bergie> We could ask David Schmitter so we could look at multilang
<torben> that would be an idea
<bergie> he lives in the same country, at least :-)
<torben> he wrote me some thing about an #ifdef'ed patch these days
<bergie> ?
<torben> the multilang patch of him wasen
<bergie> ok
<torben> wasn't #ifdef'ed the last time i looked at it
<bergie> so it could be made a configure option --with-multilang ?
<torben> yeah
<bergie> that would be nice
<bergie> would that be enough for next Midgard release?
<bergie> Look at http://midgard.dataflow.ch/
<bergie> Define HAVE_MIDGARD_MULTILANG to get multilang features
<bergie> ...I don't understand why snippets are also multilingual.
they're meant for code anyway
<torben> what about snippets with string tabels?
<bergie> ?
<torben> l10n
<torben> you have to store the string tabels for the different languages
somewhere
<torben> snippets are the best place
<bergie> yeah, something like what we do with NemeinLocalization
<torben> you just load the same snippet every time and migards i18n
features automatically load the right one
<bergie> that is definitely an option, you wouldn't need NemeinLoc at
all
<torben> as for code: you just don't use the i18n features there
<bergie> ok
<bergie> then it should be OK
<bergie> supporting multilang in an admin interface will be much work.
luckily it is backwards compatible
<torben> bergie: i don't think that it would be that much work
<bergie> ...although we should make a tool for moving objects to
languages for easing migration
<torben> you just have to support the language switching, the rest will
be auto-magic
<bergie> ok
<bergie> do you have any estimate when we could get this into Midgard
proper?
<torben> if you want to support a "translation" view though, it would be
trickier
<torben> at the sprint at lates ;-/
<bergie> mgd_set_midgard($lang) sets the language. It can be called any
number of times during processing of a request.
<torben> exactly
<bergie> torben: that schedule sounds good. can you ask David to attend?
<torben> i could
<bergie> good. this and UTF-8 as default will make Midgard a killer for
multilingual sites
<torben> agreed
<bergie> ...esp once it has a nice UI in Aegir and MidCOM
<bergie> good. I'll send this log to devel :-)
<torben> i've just wrote david a mail
<torben> could you send one @dev inviting all midgardians to it (can't
be a bad idea) ;-)
<torben> ?
<bergie> yes, I'll do that
