but you're right, the code is just a quick/dirty hack :)

the "trick" is another rewrite rule like

RewriteCond  %{REQUEST_URI}  ^/*files/user/
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ ./inc/bx/php/i'll do some perm-checks here.php?file=$1

i can help you to implement :)
