Ok... problem solved.

Here is what happened to me, if it helps anyone out.

I could post comments to old issues, but not to new issues.

We had a problem a few weeks ago (which we are grateful to Mugur for
fixing!) where our users got messed up.

So, I had everyone here in the office creating issues with my username
(which still worked for some reason).

The problem was that in our table phorum_users there is supposed to be
user_id which corresponds to a foreign key in the regular users table.
Well, for my account (which apparently is the owner of the first new,
blank post), I had 'NULL' in the value for the foreign key.

Once I put in the correct value, voila - it works.

I don't know if this will help anyone, but I hope so.
