A client of mine has just done an evaluation of Intranet DASHBOARD,
SharePoint 2007, Plone and TYPO3 for their intranet.  In their case, Plone
was the clear leader: Intranet DASHBOARD was too inflexible, SharePoint
locked them too tightly into a Microsoft stack, and some of the backend
interfaces on TYPO3 didn't fit for the people who'd be using them.

If you went through the same evaluation process, you might come up with a
different answer.  It really depends hugely on your environment and just
what you want to do.

We developed 3 quite specific scenarios for how people would use the system.
We then got a representative for each CMS to demonstrate how their system
would meet those scenarios, from both the perspective of the user and of the
underlying administrator / technical support people.

I'd encourage you to go through something similar.  People learnt a lot from
the exercise - by seeing the different CMS all addressing the same
scenarios, they now have a better idea of what to ask for during detailed
design and implementation, and they are also aware of the trade-offs they're
making.  e.g. they know that Plone doesn't do some stuff that the other CMS
do, but they've made a conscious choice that they can live without that.
